Prom Edition

Years ago I went back to school shopping with my friend and her daughter, after an evening of shopping we ended up at a trendy Long Island restaurant to grab a bite. After dinner while waiting for the valet to bring our car around, we watched as groups of girls in too short skirts, too much make up, and teetering on too high heels piled out of cars and into the restaurant. My friend and I stood there cattily commenting on the outfits these girls were wearing. That night we taught my friends daughter a few life lessons:
-Always wear underwear
-You are more beautiful without makeup
-Less is not always more
-Always act like a lady
Fast forward to today and that little Abercrombie Kids wearing little girl is going to her senior prom, and then off to college, excuse me while I choke back the tears!!

With prom season fast approaching and finding the perfect dress frenzy starting, here's what I know:

Do Not order a dress from China, it will not look like the picture, or fit well, and will probably be made horribly
Be mindful of prom dress sites, you will probably need to order a few sizes and styles to find the perfect dress and there is often a restocking fee for returns
Stick to stores like Nordstrom
Prom dresses are expensive and are typically only worn once, Rent the Runway is a great alternative to buying a dress and they have a fantastic selection
Mom's be patient you were a teenager shopping for prom dresses too
Wear a comfortable shoe
Don't be afraid to be different
Own it!
